The Final Countdown

Everyone has been talking about #crossiscoming for a while now, but it’s no longer coming, it’s here! This past weekend I wrapped up the series of CX Clinics I taught with the ‘crosser of all ‘crossers, Paul Watkins. They went well, we helped some improve their skills while also introducing a few new people to Cyclocross, which is a big goal of ours in growing the sport in OKC. It seems that not many people actually prep for CX, they just show up and race. Which, IMO, is slowing the growth. If you’re not prepared for cross, the first few races can be really unpleasant. So much that a lot of these people call it a season after 2-3 races because it’s not fun.

Monday was bike wash day before work. With the amount of bikes at our house, keeping them maintained is quite the task. So I basically pick and choose every few days and just keep the cycle going.

Today started @4am getting in some coffee and breakfast and out the door to start my day with some VO2 intervals. Not the most pleasant way to start the day, but better than dreading them all day at work. I have a great 3 mile stretch of lit 4 lane road for these. No traffic that early and I can just focus on the work to be done.

Aubrey and I have Team Camp this weekend with the SPCX Team. I’ve missed traveling and racing with those guys and I’m ready to get back to it. So a couple days of fun and beating each other up, then a final weekend off before we head to the Trek CXC Cup in Wisconsin in 2 weeks. Like I said, #crossishere!!

The Beginnings

Here we go, my first blog! Titled The Beginnings for two reasons. First, because I’m beginning this blog, obviously, and second is today is the beginning of Cyclocross season. My favorite time of year. I consider it the first official day of CX due to there being nothing at all on my schedule but ‘cross from now on. Although CX prep started long ago.

I decided to start this for a few reasons. I will be travelling quite a bit for racing soon and this will help fill all my friends and family in on my experiences better than random social media posts will. I also hope to inspire. Inspire people like me who work full time, have families, and still have goals to achieve in their lives. To make those people realize they can still have goals and aspire to do the things they want regardless of their hectic daily lives. Only catch is you have to really WANT to do it, and you have to really make it a priority. There is enough time in the day if you want there to be. Example #1 is today, up @5:30am, coffee, run, stretching, core work, make breakfast, then get the kids to school and head to work. So follow along to get the details on all the upcoming CX awesomeness and all the chaos the falls in between. Hope you all enjoy.
